Regulatory and Political Risk Assessments

Open Politics provides insights to investment firms and pension funds on the regulatory and political environments that may impact their prospective investments in Australian companies.

Drawing on our insights of federal and state regulations and politics, we provide clients with a succinct analysis of an investment target's regulatory and political environment and the likelihood of changes.

Open Politics' founder Sean Johnsonhas a decade of experience working with leading investment and advisory firms across a wide range of sectors, including: private hospitals, GP clinics, medical technology, vocational education, employment, disability support services, agriculture, superannuation, and financial planning.

Anti-Bribery & Corruption training

In partnership with former AFP officer Chris Douglasof Malkara Consulting, Open Politics offers Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) workshops to public servants and private sector staff working in environments at risk of corruption.

We offer three levels of Anti-Bribery and Corruption training, with each tailored to meet the needs of clients. Core workshops include:

• Corporate Governance (Anti-Bribery and Corruption) for company directors, chief executive officers, chief financial officers and government agency heads
• Effective Leading (Anti-Bribery and Corruption) Workshop for senior and middle managers within the public and private sector, and employees, contractors and third parties working for private and public organisations
• An intensive 5-day Anti-Bribery and Corruption “Bootcamp”.

Integrity due diligence

Open Politics offers due diligence services that assess individuals and organisations for reputational and integrity issues. We partner with Aegis Interaktif,a forensic investigations and consulting firm founded by former Victoria Police fraud investigator Peter Coleman.

For legal professionals, we can uncover critical intelligence about opposing parties in commercial litigation and defamation cases.

For private investors, we conduct risk assessments of counterparties in transactions, providing detailed insights into potential red flags, misconduct, and regulatory breaches.

Our services are customised to meet the specific needs of our clients and may include checks for:

• Adverse media mentions
• Current and historical legal actions
• Regulatory infringements and warnings
• Adverse political mentions and links to politically exposed persons (PEPs)
• Inclusions on sanctions and debarred firm lists
• Land title, directorship, and shareholding records.

We can also conduct discrete enquiries with trusted sources to obtain intelligence in foreign jurisdictions with limited or incomplete online records.

Notification of interest changes

Open Politics can notify you of changes to the Members’ and Senators’ interests registers. This includes, but is not limited to, when certain organisations provide gifts, hospitality, and junkets, or when particular politicians declare a new house, shareholdings, family trust, directorship, or other substantial interests.
