Problems: Bill Shorten breached the Prime Minister's ministerial code of conduct by not divesting his shareholding in East Malvern Community Financial Services Limited on becoming a minister.
After Open Politics revealed this on August 27, Shorten stated he would take steps to divest them. He added that the shares were inherited from his late mother and that he was not clear whether they were his to sell. Another issue is that the shares are not liquid (cannot be sold quickly) as they are not on the ASX.
Nonetheless, Shorten should not have waited for our revelation before beginning the divestment process.
